Dear Senator Cornyn,
OK, jump on the bash Obama train. No, I am not a fan of the President, and probably more conservative/libertarian than you. Yes the President has some responsibility here but this is a very complex issue an it bears some research. Over the last few years we have seen refineries close, and those still operating, are running at about 85% of capacity. Why, because fuel usage in the US is down about 6.5% year to date. The largest oil consuming nation in the world. Exactly what we are all working for, less oil consumption. How much is this? Nearly the entire amount of oil used by Great Britain each day. Hardly an insignificant amount. So much oil was on the market a year or so back, that British new services published a report that if all of the oil tankers that were being used for just STORAGE, because they had no where to go, were set end to end, the line would stretch for 12 miles. So, you would think that oil prices would be falling, right? At the same time, the Fed is devaluing our dollar, and lending billions to investment banks at nearly zero interest. Hedge funds that used to occupy about 20 to 25 percent of the oil futures market, now trade about 85% of the contracts. With who’s money, and keeping in mind they NEVER take delivery of the actual product. Of course at the same time, we can’t use the resources here on federal lands. Event the La Brea tar pits are off limits and there are perhaps 8 to 10 or more million barrels and it’s just oozing from the ground. The Willmington oil field of shore and on shore, from Torrence to Long Beach may hold up to 2.6 billion barrels, but we don’t know for sure. We can’t put a rig up to drill.
So, Senator Cornyn, the President is not the only culprit. You voted yes on a bill that will allow the Executive Branch to use the US Military to arrest and hold US Citizens without trial! People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
